¡Retumba! (Resound!) brings vibrant interactive performances that are musically soulful and passionate as well as visually fascinating. !Retumba! is a feast for the eyes and ears and brings the audience to their feet dancing. We offer various ensemble configurations as well as a variety of folkloric and contemporary music and dance of the Americas. The programs and performances are designed according to venue and audience. ¡Retumba! is a multi-ethnic music and dance ensemble from New York City founded in March of 1981 in celebration of Women's History Month. Interweaving traditional rhythms, beautiful ancient melodies, with its very own unique interpretation, ¡Retumba! bases its work on the music and dance of Africa, Europe, and its expressions in the Americas and the Caribbean: Puerto Rico, Cuba, The Dominican Republic, Mexico, and South America. ¡Retumba! brings forth the drama and excitement of world culture and traditions into a feast of folkloric music that can be enjoyed by everyone while demonstrating the similarities and links of our shared cultures.
